England will commence the first Test against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford on Wednesday, with several players aiming to make an impact following the absence of captain Ben Stokes due to an injury.
Stokes, also team's key all-rounder, is unlikely to participate in any of the three matches after sustaining a hamstring tear during 'The Hundred' tournament.
His absence marks the first instance since the inception of England's dynamic 'Bazball' approach two years ago under coach Brendon McCullum.

On Monday, England revealed their team selection, recalling fast bowler Matthew Potts as part of a five-pronged bowling attack.
Dan Lawrence, who seldom opens the batting in county cricket, has been recalled to the England team after a two-and-a-half year absence. This opportunity arose due to Zak Crawley's finger injury, which he sustained during England's 3-0 sweep of the West Indies last month.
Sri Lanka, much like the West Indies, has had limited preparation for the first Test, with only a single warm-up match under their belt.
Despite this, England are anticipated to deliver a dominating performance against the Lankans.
Under coach McCullum, England have consistently played Test cricket in aggressive fashion. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that they have chosen not to replace Crawley with a specialist opener.
Lawrence himself is confident that his inherently aggressive style of play aligns perfectly with the current England team's approach.
He believes his natural attacking game is well-suited to the philosophy embraced by the present England setup.
"Throughout my whole career I've played a certain brand of cricket and that has served me well so I'm just going to do the same thing. I'm just going to go out there and try to be as free as possible," Lawrence said on Monday.
Sri Lanka's squad for the upcoming series in England may not feature players as skillful as Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, but it still boasts seasoned players such as Angelo Mathews and Dimuth Karunaratne, who will be crucial to the team's success.
The team, led by Dhananjaya de Silva, will have the guidance of an interim coach in the form of Sri Lankan cricketing icon Sanath Jayasuriya. Jayasuriya stepped into the role after the departure of Chris Silverwood, the former England fast bowler, who decided not to extend his contract in June.
Additionally, Ian Bell, a former England batsman, has joined the coaching staff and brings valuable insights into the English conditions.
His presence will be particularly beneficial, as Sri Lanka have not played a Test series on English soil in the past eight years.
Despite the lack of recent Test cricket experience, with their last match played in April, Sri Lanka have demonstrated their ability to overcome challenges.
They recently stunned India by winning a three-match ODI series 2-0 earlier this month, showcasing their potential to deliver strong performances against the odds.
"We have an experienced batting order," Jayasuriya, a dynamic batsman who pulverised England attacks in all formats, told ESPNCricinfo.
"Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dinesh Chandimal -- they have all played a lot of cricket."
This year Sri Lanka celebrates four decades since their inaugural Test match on English soil, where Sidath Wettimuny's magnificent 190 helped secure a commendable draw at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground.
Jayasuriya, a former Sri Lankan cricketing great, suggests that the present tour's schedule might work in favor of the island nation. "The fact that we have got a late-summer tour is great," he said. "It's more similar to our conditions than the early summer tours (of England)."

Tyre brand Bridgestone recently launched a captivating digital ad film for its latest product – Bridgestone Turanza 6i. The campaign is centred around the tagline ‘Most Comfortable Seat on the Road,’ highlighting the exceptional comfort it delivers through smooth and quiet ride.
Your Most Comfortable Seat on the Road | Introducing Bridgestone Turanza 6i
Ready to transform your journey into a peaceful haven?
The digital ad film takes a unique approach with its visual device exquisitely crafted, showcasing a seamless blend of CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) and live-shoot cinematography. The meticulous attention to detail in both the digital effects and the shooting process enhances the overall visual appeal and narrative impact of the film by showing how tyres can transform an ordinary journey into one with premium comfort and has more role to play beyond just moving the vehicle forward. A good tyre can make all the difference in how smooth, quiet and safe the on-road experience is.
This forms the nucleus of Bridgestone Turanza 6i’s unique digital ad film, which tells the story of the tyre and the passengers as its only protagonists. The scenes depict a city landscape as well as the lush visuals of a scenic road trip, with rolling hills and an open car. The two contrasts are commonly bound by the premium comfort ride experience that Turanza 6i creates for the passengers, who are seen sleeping soundly, barely noticing the uneven surfaces the car encounters. This subtle portrayal effectively communicates Turanza 6i's ability to absorb road imperfections, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted journey. The ad film also indicates the vehicle segments Turanza 6i is designed for, which include premium vehicles in the SUVs, CUVs, Sedan and Hatchback categories.
Commenting on the ad film, Ankur Malhotra, Head of Marketing, Bridgestone India said, “The brilliance of the ad lies in its simplicity. The ride’s comfort is often perceived as a derivative of the car, while true to an extent, it is also majorly impacted by the tyres. By focusing on the tyre’s influence on the experience of passengers, the film allows viewers to explore the benefits of the right tyre on the overall journey. The visuals and the calming music to do the talking further emphasise the serenity the Turanza 6i promises.”
Turanza 6i, with ENLITEN technology, provides a premium comfort ride experience through a smooth and quiet ride while enhancing fuel efficiency and wear life. This makes Turanza 6i the “Most Comfortable Seat on the Road” for discerning users.
It meets both general performance demands and the specific requirements of electric vehicles by way of low noise, better fuel efficiency and superior wear life, and is also EV-Ready.
Beyond comfort: Enhanced grip and quiet performance
Bridgestone’s tagline of Solutions for Your Journey is well embodied in Turanza 6i as it’s the perfect solution for consumers looking for an elevated drive experience. The ad film expands on the few standout features of the tyre such as its superior grip through quick cuts, showcasing cutting-edge technology with the car navigating winding roads with confidence. The ad film’s soundtrack features calming vocals that grip the subconscious of the viewer, highlighting the absence of excessive road noise typically associated with driving. This reinforces the notion of a ‘silent drive’ experience offered by Turanza 6i.
Vikram Pandey (Spiky) Chief Creative Officer, Leo Burnett South Asia said, “The amount of tyre commercials that get mis-attributed as a car commercial is very high. So, when it came to promoting the Turanza 6i range from Bridgestone, we decided to focus only on the tyre and made the car disappear. Our tagline, 'Most Comfortable Seat on The Road', invites users to indulge in a journey where comfort seamlessly meets performance. The stark visualisation is bound to stay with the audience for a long time”
Journey to the Most Comfortable Seat on the Road I Behind the Scenes of the Turanza 6i Digital Film
More than just a tyre, an investment in comfort
The brand also released a ‘behind-the-scenes’ of the ad film showcasing the director’s vision of finding beauty in the busy streets of Mumbai as well as some remote roadways outside the city, and amalgamating the two in a scenic fusion, enhanced with a creative use of CGI. The final product is the ‘Most Comfortable Seat on the Road’ campaign that positions Turanza 6i as not just a tyre, but as an investment in a more enjoyable driving experience from the house of Bridgestone.

Yuvraj Singh's record of 36 runs in an over in a T20I, which he scored by hitting 6 sixes off England pacer Stuart Broad during the 2007 T20 World Cup, was broken by Samoa's wicketkeeper-batsman Darius Visser on Tuesday.
Visser took 39 runs off Vanuatu seamer Nalin Nipiko at Garden Oval No.2 in Apia, Samoa, during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A match.
1x1 polls
The over saw Visser smashing six sixes besides the three no-balls delivered by Nipiko.
Visser's blitz also eclipsed the more recent efforts from Kieron Pollard (2021 - 36 runs), Nicholas Pooran (2024 - 36 runs), Dipendra Singh Airee (2024 - 36 runs).
Visser showcased his batting prowess by hitting three back-to-back sixes off the first three balls of Nipiko's over. He continued his onslaught, clearing the boundary once more from the fourth legal delivery, propelling Samoa's total to a hundred.
Despite Nipiko's efforts to contain Visser with a dot ball on the fifth delivery, the 28-year-old remained undeterred. He capitalized on the momentum, smashing another six from the third no-ball of the over.
To cap off his remarkable performance, Visser concluded the over with yet another maximum, cementing his place in history as the first Samoan player to hit a century in international cricket.
Visser's outstanding innings featured an impressive tally of 14 sixes, four shy of the record for the most sixes hit by a single batter in a men's T20I match.
His game-changing knock of 132 runs from a mere 62 deliveries proved to be the catalyst for Samoa's second victory in the tournament. This triumph kept their aspirations of qualifying for the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup edition alive and kicking.

The World Cricketers Association (WCA), previously known as FICA, has initiated an unprecedented examination of the sport's schedule, which they describe as "broken and unsustainable."
The organization aims to propose a resolution that will enable international cricket and domestic leagues to "co-exist in a clear, coherent calendar for all."
The review panel consists of six members, including Tom Harrison, the former chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, and Sana Mir, the former captain of the Pakistan women's team.
1x1 polls
The panel will collaborate with independent consultants to conduct the review.
To gather comprehensive insights, the panel will engage in discussions with various stakeholders, including players, administrators, team owners and broadcasters. Upon completion of the review, they will submit their recommendations to the WCA board for consideration.
"The current model is broken and unsustainable," a WCA statement on Monday said, as quoted by AFP.
"Confusing and chaotic global scheduling with no clarity on the interplay between international cricket and the domestic leagues means players are increasingly forced to choose between representing their country and optimising their careers."
"Change is badly needed to create ongoing clarity, and value, for players, boards and fans alike."
WCA chair Heath Mills added: "We are fortunate that cricket is spoilt for choice and has three core formats across both the international game and domestic leagues.
"To date, the game's leadership has collectively failed to come together to establish a clear and coherent global structure in which they can co-exist. We have virtually given up hope of it doing so."
The Professional Cricketers' Association conducted a study in May, revealing that a significant majority of players, 81 per cent to be precise, were worried about the physical strain caused by the domestic cricket schedule. The players felt that the current fixture list did not allow for adequate rest and recovery periods.
In an effort to address these concerns, the ECB carried out a high-performance review in 2022, which suggested reducing the number of domestic cricket matches. However, the English county teams did not accept the proposed changes, leaving the issue unresolved.

The Warriors team lost Sumit Kumar (15) in the 16th over, after which Nair and Manoj Bhandage (31 not out off 14 balls) went into the top gear, hammering 85 runs in the last 29 balls to deflate the Dragons.
